Every five years, local governments develop 5-year development plans that align with the key objectives of the country’s National Development Plan (NDP) and Uganda Vision 2040. To accompany the development plans, nutrition coordination committees (NCCs) are responsible for developing multi-sectoral nutrition action plans (MSNAPs) to detail activities to be undertaken in support of achieving nutrition outcomes and objectives. Careful and thorough multi-sectoral nutrition planning helps local governments and their stakeholders select appropriate nutrition objectives, achieve the objectives within the time and funding available, allocate funding and staff to priority activities, and reduce overlaps and gaps in activities.
The Uganda sector and local government planning guidelines require nutrition to be included in all planning documents prepared by local governments and sectors/departments. These resources and tools help guide NCCs through the process of planning multi-sectoral interventions that will help them achieve their nutrition goals and objectives.
